mermaid-diagrams-in-obsidian
Creates, converts and debugs Mermaid diagrams for Obsidian markdown notes so they render in reading view and stay readable on narrow screens. Picks the cheapest fitting format first, then applies per-type rules. Flowcharts are capped at five nodes through folding of strictly linear runs and splitting, shaped near to square with a top-level top-to-bottom flow and left-to-right subgraph rows, with diamonds reserved for genuine decisions, and small readable flowcharts exempt from row shaping. Sequence and entity-relationship diagrams follow the same plain-label discipline under their own automatic layout. Also turns ASCII box-and-arrow sketches into Mermaid and diagnoses blocks that fail to render. Use when a note needs a new flowchart, sequence or entity-relationship diagram, when ASCII art should become a real diagram, or when an existing Mermaid block breaks in Obsidian. Not for other charting libraries, exporting diagrams to images, or files that are not markdown notes.
