Use when a task involves cl.exe, clang-cl, MSBuild or the Visual Studio CMake generator, the /MT /MD /MTd /MDd runtime family, /Zi /Z7 or PDB symbol generation, switches such as /O2 /W4 /std:c++20 /permissive- or /EHsc, or errors LNK2019 LNK2038 LNK1104 LNK2005 LNK4098. Not for GCC, Clang or MinGW outside Windows, for writing CMake toolchain files, or for driving a debugger once the binary exists.
