Choosing your skills

Browse the catalog, pin the skills you want in your library, and swap them whenever your work changes.

Browse the catalog

Every published skill is listed at /catalog, open to everyone. Each card shows the skill's name, what it does, its version and its size. Use the category buttons at the top to narrow the list. Long catalogs are split into pages.

Signed in, the same catalog is under My skills → Browse the marketplace, with an Add button on each card.

Add a skill

  1. Open My skills in the sidebar.
  2. Find a skill — use Search the full catalog at the top, the category buttons, or Filter this page.
  3. Press Add. It moves into Your library and uses one pin.

The change is immediate: your next skilvault list includes the new skill, on every connected machine. There is nothing to reinstall.

Remove or swap a skill

Press Remove on a skill in Your library to free its pin, then add a different one. You can do this as often as you like — pins are about what is active now, not a lifetime allowance.

Pins and what happens at the limit

The header of My skills shows how many pins you are using, for example 3 of 5 pinned. When every pin is taken, the Add buttons change to Pin limit reached — unpin a skill to make room, or upgrade for more (see Plans & billing).

If you move to a plan with fewer pins, skills beyond the new limit are removed from your library, oldest first. You can re-pin different ones afterwards.

Skills that change or disappear

  • New versions: when a skill is updated, you get the new version the next time it is read. Local copies refresh the first time you use SkilVault from a CLI that day.
  • Unpublished skills: if an administrator takes a skill offline, it stays on your library page marked Currently unavailable — remove this skill to free its pin. It cannot be downloaded until it is republished.

Finding the right skill

You do not have to browse by hand. Your agent can search for you:

  • Claude runs skilvault find <words> at the start of non-trivial work and reads any matching skill — on paid plans, from the whole catalog; on the free plan, from your pinned library.
  • A match marked [not selected] is in the catalog but not pinned. On paid plans Claude can still read it with skilvault read <name>; on the free plan, pin it here first to make it usable.
